Detection of flat spots on rail vehicles

Undetected flat spots, welds or crumbling on the wheel tire can lead to serious consequential damage and have an impact on ride safety. The GEL 2475FD flat spot detector has integrated detection of periodic impact loads. This allows flat spots on the wheel tires to be reliably detected. Noise emissions can be efficiently reduced through targeted maintenance measures.

Flat spot signaling can be output via analog HTL signals (PWM) for straightforward system integration. Alternatively, signaling via an RS-485 interface with Modbus RTU is also available. The digital interface offers the additional advantage of outputting supplementary acceleration data - for example, indicators for bearing damage detection.

The classification of flat spots into different severity levels supports early detection. Warning thresholds are configurable on a customer-specific basis, depending on the installation location and the severity of the flat spots. This enables maintenance measures to be initiated in good time, workshop visits to be planned more effectively, and consequential damage to be avoided.

The detector also supplies classic speed signals so that existing pick-up sensors can be easily replaced. Of course, these systems are also electrically isolated from each other internally and thus without feedback.
