Control of diesel engines

Sensors for conventional marine propulsion systems

  • Ready-to-connect sensor systems reliably acquire speed for optimal load control
  • Minimized maintenance requirements and low life-cycle costs through wear-free sensor technology
  • Optionally available in ATEX-compliant design for use in hazardous areas, e.g. in LPG-powered engines
  • Standstill detection down to 0 Hz – no minimum speed required
  • Multichannel versions with status and inverted signals

Precise speed sensors and velocity sensors for harsh maritime conditions

On the high seas, you must be able to rely on functioning technology. Long-lasting and robust components are therefore of immense importance. For this reason, our sensors are designed for reliable use under extreme climatic conditions as well as in the presence of humidity, shock, vibration, pressure and saltwater.

Our speed sensors are designed for reliable use on, for example, propeller shafts, main engines, gearboxes, auxiliary units and generators. They safely measure frequencies from 0 to 30 kHz, thus enabling true standstill detection down to 0 Hz – including direction of rotation detection.

Thanks to galvanic isolation, high EMC immunity and robust stainless steel housings up to IP69, they ensure maximum operational safety even under extreme environmental conditions at sea.

High tolerance for dynamic air gap variations

Are you looking for a redundant, fail-safe sensor system for diesel engines of various sizes that delivers reliable signals even under short-wave, highly dynamic air gap variations between the flywheel and the sensor?

The solution is our customer-individually configured bearingless rotary encoder GEL 2475 for direction of rotation detection and speed acquisition, suitable for various measuring scales in the wide range of engine variants. Get in touch with us!

High-precision signals for efficient control of large diesel engines

The precise acquisition of crankshaft position and speed is a fundamental prerequisite for the efficient and safe control of modern diesel engines. Speed information is essential for idle and load control, particularly in diesel-electric operation, as well as for protecting the engine against overspeed.

A particular advantage arises from the 0 Hz capability of the sensor GEL 2475: since large diesel engines are started with compressed air, the extremely low latency enables early and reliable detection of engine movement. This reduces the required air supply, resulting in measurable cost, space and weight advantages – a clear added value over conventional sensor solutions.

Preventive maintenance in marine propulsion systems

Condition monitoring sensors monitor engine and drive components and provide valuable information for the early detection of bearing and gearbox damage, imbalances, misfires and cavitation. In this way, the sensors help to avoid unplanned failures, increase drive availability and efficiently implement a predictive maintenance strategy.

We have the right, reliable solutions for condition monitoring of maritime diesel engines – even under heavy vibrations, changing sea states and extreme environmental conditions. In addition to precise speed signals, our CombiCODER simultaneously acquires vibrations in three axes as well as temperature, combining several important measured variables in a single robust, fully encapsulated housing.

Retrofit and customized solutions

Our sensors are ideally suited for retrofit projects to significantly extend the service life of vessels. Compact designs, customer-specific stainless steel flanges, threaded pipe sensors and customized signal variants enable easy integration into existing systems – even in confined installation spaces.

We offer you reliable 1:1 replacement solutions for sensors that are no longer available on the market – compatible, flexible and future-proof.
