Traction control an wheel slide protection

Stable drive control at maximum traction

  • Bearingless rotary encoders with high-resolution signals for precise drive control and maximum torque transmission
  • Fine drive control and rapid detection of torsional vibrations for safe acceleration under demanding conditions
  • Higher pulse numbers improve signal resolution – this has a positive effect on torque ripple, drive efficiency and ride comfort
  • Selectively reduce braking force on the affected axle with anti-skid encoders
  • Compliance with railway standards and optionally specific certification requirements for all common anti-skid systems

Precise speed acquisition for optimized traction control

To optimally regulate drive power output, rotary encoders and bearingless rotary encoders help traction systems to quickly and precisely detect slip and torsional vibrations of individual axles, optimizing torque until sufficient adhesion between wheel and rail is restored. This reduces material wear and ensures efficient drive performance and greater ride comfort.

Smooth start-up and greater ride comfort

For traction control in electric motors with existing installation space for pick-up sensors, only low-resolution speed signals are frequently used. This makes starting on gradients more difficult, for example. The high-resolution bearingless rotary encoder GEL 2477 enables significantly more dynamic control behavior thanks to integrated pulse multiplication. Anti-spin detection benefits from higher pulse numbers and the resulting improved torque control.

With this robust, wear-free sensor, motor energy consumption and noise levels are reduced. This pays off particularly in situations where high torque is demanded. Even under heavy load, smooth acceleration is possible – for energy efficiency and greater ride comfort.

If no installation space for pick-up sensors is available, our rotary encoders GEL 293 and GEL 295x can offer comparable advantages depending on the mechanical interface configuration.

Precise speed acquisition for optimized anti-skid protection management

Wheel slide protection systems ensure an optimal balance between braking force and braking distance under all weather conditions. If the friction values between rail and wheel become too low during braking, slip occurs or the wheel locks up. Our bearingless rotary encoders and multi-system sensors are the ideal solution for extending the service life of wheels and rails and ensuring precise stopping accuracy at the platform.

Sensor with high dielectric strength meets railway standards

Brake system manufacturers rely on our bearingless rotary encoders GEL 2475 in anti-skid systems. Particularly suited for this application are the sensors with high dielectric strength of 1,500 V AC. Tens of thousands of these anti-skid sensors are already in service worldwide.
