CombiCODER: Gearbox monitoring made easy

By continuously monitoring gear components, anomalies or signs of wear can be detected at an early stage before they result in serious damage. Lenord+Bauer’s CombiCODERs have been used successfully in the rail transportation sector for many years and support predictive maintenance. Another model has recently been added to the sensor series specifically for gearbox condition monitoring.

CombiCODER

Effective monitoring of gearboxes allows you to precisely schedule maintenance intervals and actions. This minimizes unplanned downtimes and maximizes the train operating time.

For rail vehicle axles, it is often difficult to install sensors on the gearbox due to the limited space available in the bogie. The CombiCODER now combines sensor systems for measuring speed, vibration, shock and temperature in a tried-and-tested modular housing system that is tailored to the gearbox application.

In addition to analog acquisition of the vibration values, classic speed signals are output. This also allows the expected fundamental frequencies and their harmonic frequencies to be determined in order to reliably detect any deviations in the gear.

Instead of mounting three to four sensors, just one sensor has to be mounted. This reduces the effort required for assembly and preventive maintenance. The compact housing is similar to that of a conventional speed sensor to ensure installation compatibility.

The installation site can remain the same. However, acceleration signals are also recorded in three axes and the temperature is measured. This significantly increases the efficiency and reliability of Condition Monitoring without any additional effort.
